Tour of the Festo Technology Plant

Monday, October 23, 2017

Festo: Driving Force of Automation
Festo AG is simultaneously a global player and an independent, family-owned business based in Esslingen am Neckar. The enterprise provides pneumatic and electronic automation technology for 300,000 customers of factory and process automation, across 40 sectors. Products and services are available in 176 countries. In 2016, 18,800 employees in 61 countries in over 250 branch offices worldwide generated revenue of approximately €2.74 billion. From that, about 8% is invested in research and development every year. The portion for education and training in the “learning company” amounts to 1.5% of revenue. Training courses are not only offered to employees: The Festo Didactic SE offers industrial education and training programs for automation technology to clients, students, and apprentices.

Festo Technology Plant
The Scharnhausen Technology Plant is the proof of how to implement lean and energy efficient production processes at the high-tech site Germany. Highest quality of products as well as a sustainable and eco-friendly production is what characterizes the factory, where the automation company manufactures valves, valve terminals, and electronics. The technology plant implements first concepts of industry 4.0 with the entry of digitalization, its flexibility and transformability, as well as the use of collaborating robots.

Crucial to the concept of the technology plant are efficient value chains and value streams. They are significant factors for the global competitiveness of Festo. The facility also has an exemplary function: It serves as a reference factory for Festo’s clients where the latest automation technology is demonstrated to them. The facility has a total area of 66,000 square meters; 1,200 employees in total work there. Festo invested 70 million Euro in the expansion of the location.
