Press Release

tekom annual conference, October 23 – 25, 2012

International hub for technical communication

(Stuttgart, July 24, 2012) From October 23rd to 25th Wiesbaden will again become the meeting point for technical writers from all over the world. This is the thirteenth time that the trade association tekom presents its annual conference in the local Rhein-Main-Hallen. The conference includes lectures and workshops in German and English, an international trade fair as well as the Associations World, a presentation of international trade associations.

The tekom annual conference is the hub for technical communication experts and executives who are working for industrial enterprises or service providers. It offers everything that technical communication specialists need for their professional advancement. This includes buzz-worthy topics and lectures about the latest industry trends, such as the new standard IEC 82079-1. This English standard, which will be published soon, describes how a documentation for a technical device needs to be composed. In a special presentation focusing on the new standard, standard experts explain what’s new and how it will affect manufacturers.

Presentation of new guideline

Other focus areas of the conference are Mobile Documentation and Content Strategies. The English conference track Content Strategies describes how a manufacturer can communicate more effectively with his customers, including aspects such as service quality and social media.

Tekom has looked into mobile documentation for quite a while already. Tablets and smartphones as well as their respective networks and applications present new challenges for technical communication. Documentation for a mobile device follows other rules than a printed manual that is included with the device. At the conference tekom will exclusively present its brand new guideline that supports technical writers when producing documentation for mobile devices.

International Associations and Trade Fair

This year marks the third time that the tekom offers the Associations World, a special trade fair area where currently 21 international trade associations and organizations dealing with technical communication, translation and localization are presented. The Associations World provides attendees and visitors with the unique opportunity to meet renowned experts from all over the world. This is particularly helpful for export-oriented companies, that are looking for country-specific requirements regarding technical documentation.

The tekom trade fair also includes a growing number of international exhibitors. At present a total of 170 exhibitors have registered for the trade fair. However, the organizers are expecting a strong increase until October. The tekom trade fair offers a multitude of services and products, that cover the entire process chain of technical communication.

Social program and Dokupreis award

In addition to the lectures and the trade fair the tekom conference also offers an engaging evening program. A special highlight is the Networking dinner with international guests on October 23rd. Another highlight of the conference is the presentation of the tekom-Dokupreis on October 24th. This prize is awarded annually for excellent instruction and operating manuals as well as online help tools. Apart from these events visitors and attendees can choose from a variety of city tours and excursions to places of interest in Wiesbaden.
